Jane Kingsley-Smith is a Senior Lecturer at Roehampton University, London and a regular guest speaker at Shakespeare’s Globe. She studied for her PhD at the Shakespeare Institute, Stratford-upon-Avon, later published as a monograph entitled Shakespeare’s Drama of Exile (Palgrave, 2003). However, her more recent work has focussed on erotic mythology, including a chapter on “Mythology” in A New Companion to English Renaissance Literature and Culture ed. Michael Hattaway (Blackwells, 2010) and articles on Shakespeare and Sidney: “Love’s Labour’s Scorned: The Absence of Cupid on the Shakespearean Stage”, Cahiers Elisabéthains 73 (Spring 2008), 9-22 and “Cupid, Idolatry and Iconoclasm in Sidney’s Arcadia”, SEL 48, 1 (Winter 2008), 65-91. This research culminated in a book, Cupid in Early Modern Literature and Culture (Cambridge University Press, 2010). Jane is currently working on Shakespeare’s Sonnets.
